Why should I give any training to my pet?  Obedience training is extremely important for both you and your pet.  It will bring you closer and bonding will occur much quicker.  Simple obedience training is a great foundation to solve just about any problems you may be having with your animal.  Things like the "stay" command or the "sit and stay" can be very beneficial to an owner at times when it may be dangerous for your pet to follow you.  You will save much embarrassment by teaching your pet to NOT jump on visitors to your home.  And, a simple command of "off" tells your dog to stop biting on that table leg or other piece of furniture.

Almost all behavior problems are because dogs are social animals and without proper training, they will behave like animals.  They must be taught not to urinate in your house, bark excessively, dig holes in your yard, destroy your belonging etc.  These things seem all perfectly normal to your untrained dog, but will make the owner a very unhappy camper.  We as owners must redirect the natural behavior of our beloved pets to help us to live more harmoniously.

You should always make obedience training fun and rewarding for your dog.  It will enrich your entire relationship while establishing the "lead dog" role for the owner.  In this way your dog can be allow much more freedom than one who has to stay kenneled because he can not be trusted to roam around your house.

There are some pre-conceived ideas about training puppies or older dogs.  You can teach a dog new things at any age.  However old your dog is, its never too late to start training him.  There is no animal that doesn't make slip ups on occasion even after we think they should be trained to perfection.  Sometimes old problems resurface and we need to re-touch some areas of training.  That is perfectly normal and never ending.  Knowing the basics on how to reinforce trained responses is key to keeping things in line.

Bark collars are one way of training a dog that barks all through the day or night. Some bark collars detect barking with a microphone and activate on sound, but can be falsely set off by other noises or another dog's bark. Some bark collars use vibration but can be falsely set off by other motion or jostling. The newest technology combines both sound and vibration, then uses a computer controlled microprocessor technology to analyze these inputs. The result is a fool-proof bark detection system, assuring the best possible anti-bark training

There are many public classes available for dog training at local pet stores as well as private organizations.  After you and your pet learn the basics, training can continue at home.  Always pick an area with little or no distractions so your pet can focus on you only and not the screaming kids or other pets in the house.  After his behavior is enforced in a quiet situation, you can introduce him to busy surroundings to further his training.
